First RX-7? What to mod...What to mod...

Hello all,
I recently purchased a 1987 base model RX-7. It has been amazingly well maintained, with a beautiful interior and immaculate white paint job. The body of the car has 129k miles, but a new engine was placed in the car at 70k miles. The car is in great shape, and i would really like to get to work making some performance improvements. However, i am a student and so i am on a budget I just wanted to know what all those second gen. veterans recommend that i should modify in order to get the most performance gain for the price. Thanks for takin a look, all suggestions are welcome.
Daniel

Full exhaust is one of the best HP/$ mods for a 7.

After the exhaust, I hear light weight flywheels have the second most noticable improvement in performance for NA's. Also, take a look into the FAQ section and archives. There are tons of informative discussions.

full exhaust is great improvment on gaining HP except the loud noises.... more noise less restrictions unless your a ricer n put a big can on your muffler to make it look fast

In the archive theres a vendors thread. I suggest that as a start to show you where you may order from. Buy some headers get a straight pipe, and grab yourself a catback. Also grab a intake while your at it.

Refrain from doing that, he said first modification on his NA. Not how to make 400hp or whatever.

It gets annoying.

I think your money would be better spent elsewhere. Otherwise I don't know much else about the exhausts listed above.

Search also, just recently (I can't remember where) there was a discussion on headers. I think it was the General Automotive section.

Good luck!

well, to me, sometimes performance can be made up elsewhere if done correctly, and to me i have alot of pride in the rarity and make of my parts. harder to find mazdaspeed parts (especially all the NLA stuff for our cars) and the uber-respected, expensive, and well made RE-A parts hold just as much value to me, if not more, than the 3-5hp difference in systems. especially if such a system sounds as unique as it is rare!
