TX Tips:

If you are the adventurous at home mechanic, here are some of the DIY tips i wish i would have had about a month ago before tearing my 86 N/A apart...

A friggin engine hoist!!! (Myself and a buddy yanked it out of the car by hand but ugh, if you got a bad back, don't try that....)

a 2-1/8" or 54mm socket (got mine at sears for $27.50... lifetime warranty of course... for the flywheel nut...)

get a blowtorch (Burnz-o-matic or similar, mappgas or something like that, heat is turning out to be my favorite tool...)

PATIENCE DAMMIT!!! PATIENCE....

I also discovered that 2 floor jacks and a buddy make this whole operation go much faster... jacking up and jacking down...

if this is your first rebuild on a rotary, do yourself a favor, get a digital camera... take LOTS OF PICS ALONG THE WAY (not just for us, but as nice reference photos of where crap goes that you will forget where exactly it does go a month or so later when you are installing your engine...)

A rubber mallet... (used mine alot for getting some of the 20 year old gaskets to separate, don't brutalize the parts, just convince them they would be better off apart... )
OK! Now i am gonna STFU because i'm "swervy" and posting, always dangerous...

GOOD luck, oh yeah, You can do what I did, yank a piston out of an old motor and scrawl little voodoo curses upon them with a sribe and hang it from the ceiling for good luck!

Theres a lot involved to much to just say hey do this. I would advice to take good notes lay everything out clearly and organized. Take the project in steps even devise a check list. Check things 6 times. Clean parts is a must take then and have the parts bathed and beaded then paint immediately. Use a strong impact gun and good TQ wrenches. I have had to use heat to remove the front E bolt on 2 occasions but a simple butane torch will do the job.

And read the arc here https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-gen-archive-72/basic-tear-down-port-rebuild-what-look-how-639375/

heres what you need to know from someone who had never done it b4 till a few months back.
1. make sure your water/oil seals do not fall out of place when reassembling the engine. dont want to get that baby back in the car and realize oh **** i have water in my oil.
2. if you plan to reuse the conner seals keep the groomets or buy new ones, or better yet get the solid ones from atkins it really does make putting in the apex's easyer.
3. make sure you oppose the rotors, i didnt and had to tear it half way down to fix problem.
4. GLUE THAT SOB OF A KEY INTO THE OIL PUMP SO YOU WILL HAVE OIL PRESSURE ON START UP, also make sure its primmed aka spitting out oil at you.
5. you will need a good batter and a jumper car (for startup)
6. rebuild kits are worthe the money, you may not use every part but for the most part its worth it.
7. USE LOTS OF LUBE ON EVERYTHING.
8. ENJOY THE PROJECT !!!! you will gain so much knowledge about the rotory engine just from rebuilding it. its not hard to put it back together, i did it in about 4, maybe 4 1/2 hours. just take your time RED EVERYTING DONT JUST LOOK AT THE PICTURES and you should be fine.

if you every have any qustions you can pm me and i will help as best i can
GOOD LUCK !
