First engine rebuild
First engine rebuild
So here it goes I have close to 190,000 on my '88 GTU and I doubt she'll take much more so I want to start a rebuild now. I have an '86 SE parts car with low miles on it around 86,000 (the trans went bad) I would like to pull this engine and rebuild it with a street port /Mild street port as this will be a daily driver.
I have read a lot about the porting, templets etc.., but does polishing do that much (within the ports) ?
Can these engines be balanced if so how and is it worth it for a street application
Thank JT

I wish I was driving!
Mirror polishing the ports is a good idea, if you have the time. I did it on mine.
As for engine balancing... Not really for a street application. Cruise around the RB site, they recommend only for 8500 and above. I doubt your power band will reach that high with just a mild street port, so you'll never need to rev that high.
Balancing is really only for race engines.
Good luck with the rebuild.
