Exclamation First Carbon Fiber Hood Finished!

They really turned out well. The one that I have (pictured) is thicker in the fiberglass framing than we wanted, so he shaved that one down on the edges to have the correct thickness with the CF skin on top to match the stock hood. The result is mine weighs more than the others will. Mine only weighs 19lbs and it is a heavy one The finish it very nice. If you want it to look like a mirror finish, you will need to either wetsand it with some 1200+grit paper and buff it with some rubbing compound or rough it up with some 400 grit paper and take it to an autoshop and have them clearcoat it. The clearcoating will have the best results and we got 3 different quotes from local paint shops of $35, $40 and $45.

Info will be on our website if you have any questions or need pricing info or whatever.

Enjoy

DAMN, look at the lines of that hood!!! looks like a FANTASTIC fitment, much better than the stuff I've seen from TC spoilers and the like. Way beyond any of the cheapy 300 carbons for the hondas; they are heavy and fit horribly; uneven, gaps and such. great job dave!! how much does a stock NA hood weigh (not alum). btw, I got the oil pellet in the mail; will install it soon

lookin good!!

Looks NIIICE!!

I might buy one now. But $500 is alot of money for 30-40lbs of weight savings. Maybe the price will go down later....

i doubt it...500 is a very very fair price...sure, there is meaningful weight advantages, especially if u gut weight elsewhere (spare tire, heat shields, swap out stock seats etc...). Is $500 for 100 lbs of weight loss worth it?? not really, your car wont speed up enough for you to notice it and it'll help more for braking/handling. this is about style...people kept asking and looking for carbon hoods for the 2nd gen (outside of Japan since it's $$ plus importing charge) and Dave delivered...
we now have a 2nd gen hood available, which seems to be high on quality, and more than reasonable on cost. an NA carbon hood on a car with an FMIC would be SOOO sweet...anyone wanna beat me to it when I swap motors this winter?? my GVR4 is almost done w/ the new motor and 18G which means the rex can go under the knife soon!!

$500 is an incredible price for something like this. That's why I hate this forum, all you people want something for absolutely nothing. Someday you will learn that quality costs money. I don't think anyone has ever actually sold a car because of this damn forum...

will the t2 hood scoop be part of the hood? or is it going to be a second piece, like how it is stock?

The first TII hood should be bonded together this week. We will have pics of that as well.

They won't be offered at a cheaper price later on. They are half of what they cost to import from overseas. People asked for them, and we made them. Simple isn't it?

I believe in earlier threads dave mentioned that the scoop would be moulded into the hood...besides, I'm sure it's easier for them to make it that way.

It is an integrated part of the TII hood. We MIGHT offer the hood scoop seperate in CF for those that want to keep the AL hood but don't want to soend the cash for the CF and want the scoop in CF. That is still in the air, and dependent on how these go.

Something I forgot to mention

We are also numbering these hoods. If we decide later to stop production for some reason (which we don't forsee) then they would be a colectors piece

The placks will be on the bottom of the hood right next to where the hood latch is. They are small aluminum pieces 1"X3" that have our website name and the production number of your hood. The N/A and TII hoods will have their own numbers. Like there will be a 0001 N/a and TII hood. I get the 0001's of course

are hood pins going to want to be installed for safety or is the latch good and thick?

on my hood for my civic it had nice rounded corners. like they wrapped the CF around to underneith to give it a nice smooth edge... or is this like a Fiber images hood where it's like they cut it out of a mold so the edges are 90 degree angle cut outs?

They are optional. The latch is plenty strong enough to use alone. We can also make them without the stock latch if people want to just use hoodpins, but we don't sell those.

The edges are smooth and it doesn't have a cut out appearance. It is a well finished hood.

Congratulations on getting them started
Don't expect me to buy one though. However one day I may be interested in one of your purdy oil temp and pressure thingy. Mmm sexy.
Good luck on the sales
