first car...GTU-s, and ?'s
i finally got a job, i had to wait till the summer because of school. anyways im lookin to make about $2000 over the next two months, my parents said they might pay whatever i do. i emailed a guy around here who fixes up rx7s and sells them and stuff. he has an 89 gtus that will be ready in about to months. its red and he said it is/or will be in excellent condition and said it will be for around $5000. i had wanted a turboII, but really thats not the right car for me right now, because this is my first car and i need it to be reliable.
just wondering in general how rx7s drive compared to other cars so when i go to test drive it i sorda know what to look for. im pretty sure i wont get screwed over since im buying from someone who spends all his time fixing these cars and selling them.
since im looking ahead, im looking at getting the RB suspension package for it. that will probably be the "big" thing i get for it since i can barely afford the car.
since i had originally wanted the TII, i was looking at just getting the RB full exhaust and that fuel cut timer to add all that power, so what tricks are there to get more power out of the n/a's without spending more than a couple hundred? i read that the RB cat back for them only adds 5-7hp, just like any other system probably. and i dont want to spend that much money for that small upgrade. but since i live in SC where we dont have emission tests and all that, could i do some sort of custom setup and take the cats off and mabey just get the RB mufflers? about how much would the custom job cost (im just talking about removing the cats and replacing them with pipes or something, if thats the right idea), and about how much power would i get out of it? if its not possible to get a good 20hp more out of the n/a's without spending some serious money, ill probably just go with the suspension and leave the rest stock.
one more question, could i beat a stock 99 v6 5spd stang? its my friends and i guess it would feel good to know i have a faster car, not really into the street racing stuff though. i guess one more...could i beat a civic hatch (93-95) with a b16 cause the guy that owns it thinks he can beat my friends 350z but they havnt raced yet.

it better be immaculate for 5k, but good luck!
About it's speed... I think it could beat a v6 stang, but i'm not sure. As for the guy with the honda, I dont think a civic with a engine swap can beat a 350Z!! But then again, I don't know crap about hondas.
Hope it works out for you.
