Firing on one and a half rotors?

Ok first off, Large street port NA, just a lil over 5 hundred miles on the motor, all new gaskets, seals, springs, etc. Everything new but the housings. Runs like crap, thought it was just the break in, got a lil worse but seems to get better the more i drive it. or just getting used to it.

I know my IAT sensor is gone, broke it putting the motor in, new one will be here tomorrow, so that gets rid of the check engine light.

NOW. for the wierd part.... I hooked up the timing light to make sure it was good. about where it should be at 1000-1100RPM . then I hooked onto the trailing wire, well the light showed the same mark the leading did (yellow). So, the leading and trailing #1 bring the same yellow timing mark up in the same spot instead of L1 yellow and T1 red. If i clamp on to the T2 wire the timing light gets very inconsistent and slow. Which, leads me to believe a bad coil?

Before I put the stock exhaust back one, while pulling off the header i noticed one pipe was nice and white. Where as the rear rotor was black as all could be...

I have sort of the same prblem in mine (except the running liek crap part). the plugs in the front rotor housing are white and the ones in the back are pretty black.

might be some carbon buildup???

Zero the timing as in front rotor facing the plugs for ignition and then drop the crank trigger in making sure the dots stay ligned up right?
yeahup, before I even stabbed the motor. But, I think I'm going to do it again. I have it running a lotttttt better but it still has a slight pause down low.

fouled plugs can give you false readings which may look like a bad coil. rotories are very sensitive to fouled plugs, even if you clean them off they still might not work . I suggest brand new plugs

also do a compression test

Yeah I think the first week I was trying to get it started I went through 200$ worth of plugs lol. It seems to run a whole lot better now that I have gotten rid of the check engine light, still fine tuning timing and need to make sure the TPS is still adjusted. I'll pull the plugs sometime tomrrow to take a peak and read what they say lol
