Question find oil pump

im showing near zero oil pressure at idle, and about 40-50 on the highway.so im going to replace the oil pump.someone said something about "pellets"?or something to do with the mechanism that stops sending oil to the rotors during warm up.can someone explain to me where these two things are in the car?

the oil pumps like never fail....

more likly the gauge or sending unit.

first thing you need to do is check it with a mech. gauge.

The oil pump is basically inside the engine, and it is highly unlikely to be your problem (engine wouldn't run long with no oil pressure before siezing). A faulty thermal bypass results in low oil pressure but not nearly zero oil pressure. Most likely the pressure sender's electrical connection is dirty and/or loose. Inspect it and clean it. Make sure it's clipped on tightly.

thanks for all the help man,i read in here to make sure a car is 100% before modding it,so thats what im going through now.il check the wire tomorow, and if that aint it,ill just grab another pressure sender while im getting a rad at the j-yard tomorow. thanks a ton for the pic.

well, when i just ran it,it showed around 60,as it warmed up the pressure dropped back down, does that still sound like the temp guage sender?

60 psi on startup, the guage lowers as it warms up then never really goes above like 45, does that still sound like a temp guage sender problem??

You keep misspelling OIL PRESSURE GAUGE/SENDER UNIT with TEMP GAUGE SENDER. Please stop it.

If this engine has been rebuilt in the past.....then I'd suspect the front cover's small O'ring/gasket as shown in Mazdatrix.com FAQ section. http://www.mazdatrix.com/faq/oring.htm

But I'd do nothing until you buy a mechanical oil pressure unit like a cheap SUNPRO at Autozone or PePboys and temporarily install it to see what the real pressure is. Righty tighty, lefty lucy.
