Finally Getting and FC
I am finally getting and FC. I am buying it for 700. It is a 86 GXL. I was told there was only 30-40 compression on the engine, so right now I am still debating to rebuild it my self so i can learn about the engine more and know exactly what is happening to my car, or buy a used engine right now. I am going to be picing it up in the next few days...hopefully today. I will get pics posted up asap. I cant wait to start this project and i hope everything goes well. I will be posting updates and such as I go. The car hasnt been ran for atleast seven months I am assuming, since it still has the old tabs on the lisence plates. IF anyone can give me some tips to what I need to do to make it run properly, if i can even get it running at all. Just leave some comments and stuff i should do to it to start the project off. Thanks everyone and I will keep updating as much as i can.

If it's 30-40psi with a PROPER compression test...you MAY be able to get it running, but it'd be one hell of a joke.
If it's running such low compression, a rebulid is probably in order.

What do I need to get a proper compression test? I have been reading about these cars for a few yrs now but have yet to work on one or do anything that involves the rotary engine. Thanks for the help guys.

the engine needs to be fully warm, and the throttle needs to be all the way open when cranking. To do a completely accurate test you need the mazda tester (or access to one) so you can get the compression on each face of the rotor and the rpm the engine is spinning at.
Otherwise just get it warm, take out the schraeder valve on a normal tester, then floor the throttl and crank while someone watches the bounces on the guage.

Well I went and seen if I could turn it over, but the battery is dead right now. So I am just going to get a flatbed and take it to my dads work and probably just just taking apart the engine and either rebuild it or buy a used engine probably. Anyone know a good place that sells used engines? If I do attempt to start it, I am going to change all fluids since it hasnt been started for atleast 7 months maybe even longer. I am going to talk to the guy to figure out more information. Is there anything else i should check or do before attempting to start? Thanks guys.

Hey also when I put the lights back down it would make a little noise like it was hitting something...it went down fine and fit in well. Is it suppose to sound like that? I have never had lights that pop up like that before so i have no idea what they sound like. Everything fit well and alignment was fine.

Well the car is being picked up tonight and will be at my dads work tomorrow morning. So I will go get some pictures tomorrow hopefully. I probably will start tearing down the engine bay a bit too, but maybe not yet. I am getting pretty excited about it ;P.
Sence i will have the motor out and such...Is there other mods and stuff that would be much easier to do now then later on? I am thinking of changing the hoses to silicone hoses and possiably getting rid of the rats nest...will this be a good time to do all of this? well talk to you all tomorrow and hopefully i can get some pictures up.
peace

depending on your local area, remove all you emmisions **** & power steering if you absolutely dont need it. Unless you're totaly weak, you wont need it, maybe a little bit of extra umph in a parkin lot or whatever.

I was just told by a friend i talk to online, who use to own a 3rd gen untill he got hit by a drunk driver. That i should use 3tbsp of atf the tranny fluid stuff to my spark plugs and then 4oz of 2stroke oil to my gas if im going to try to get this running.
Also...I just remembered the engine bay has like dots of oil all over...They said they tried to get it started for a little bit..didnt try to hard but do you think that could be from them? Or is there something else up with it i need to know/
Also one more thing...should i change all the fluids before trying to start it? or should it be fine if i am only going to check compression and such?

well... We finally got her running...we had to pull start her though. But she wont idle and if she dies we still cant get her running unless we pull again. I believe the motor is probably dead...but is there a chance she might not be? its been sitting for a about a year. Atleast 7 months anyways. I took her on the road to try and clean her out a bit...but there is 0 power basicly....it was a bitch to get her redlined and to get her moving at all. Any ideas on this?? well anyways thanks...im going to get another compression test soon.
later
