Final Diagnosis of the FC

Well im gonna get back home on Wens night and the FC's still not in running condition. To those new to the situation I have a 87' NA with a really bad vacuum leak. I tried fixing it by going with all new vacuum lines and new gaskets. I put everything together the first time and the car wont even start from the leak(its gotten worse). So I take everything apart again and in the process snapped two oil lines. So I go back down to Mazda and buy the two for $50. Reassmble everything and the leaks still bad. I go through it again and noticed the power brake vacuum was loose. Tightened that and then noticed there was a EGR type thing that went around the lower manifold and I snapped the bolt which had an air bleed type screw. reassembled again and tore the gasket but used silicone gasket to compensate. Start the car and its still running like crap. I heard a pop from the engine but Im hoping it was just intake backfire from the leak. Could I have blown my motor? What could be causing this? Where can I get a new engine from, and if I have to which one should I go with (NA S4, S5, or turbo S4 or S5?) Thanks in advance.

I don't think that you would have blown the motor, but I would say that if you decide to replace, I would go with the S5 turbo.

The reason im considering that is cause I had to keep the revs up (around 3k) while the engine was cold to move the car and im not too sure if the OMP was working thanks to lack of vacuum. I have the CS cat back on there but it doesnt sound high pitched like its running on a single rotor when it is on. Do you guys think it may just be a vacuum leak still? Anyone have a clue about the 2 screws on the lower manifold? Thanks again

When I was trying to start with my brake booster hose off, (doooohhy) I would have to hold it at about 3K so it would run, and it would backfire like mad, like someone was shooting at me. Thats how loud it was. You can always pull your plugs and feel the air coming out.

hmm, well I guess im just gonna try to add some 2 cycle oil (dont know how much it'll help but might as well try). Anyone know about the lower manifold screw?? Thanks for relieving some stress Piranha, no job and fall semester right around the corner, I didnt wanna have to add blown motor to the list of worries.
