figure this one out guys

ok, it all started when i got a battery for my new car (i had not started it before this) i tried hooking it up and the horn went off so i was like ok whatever probally just the alarm. i disconected the horns hooked up the batt, and the only thing working was stuff in the interior but the security light was on as well as the door open light i could not get either to go off. i tried turning on the headlights but only the console lights came on. so i looked under the hood thinking one of the fuses was broken, i was right it was the 80a "main" fuse so i was happy thinking it was only a fuse, i replaced it, even worse news. when i tried hooking up the batt, spark city, like welding sparks, it melted a spot on the terminol on the battery. then when i finally got it hooked up without sparking like a bitch NOTHING worked! im really stuck here

seems that you may of shorted somthing out weather it was by installing your 80a fuse or not. REcheck ALL of your fuses. what i would do is pull them all out, and put each one back in individually by hooking the batter up after each one you put in to find out which circuit is causing your spark city. You said your 80a fuse was gone as well? check your headlight circuit, look for cracks in the wire, bare wire touching metal, or anything else that could cause a shortage like that. if your 80a fuse blew after you hooked your battery up, try installing a new one with the headlights off to see if that will eliminate your shortage, -alex

Did you put the battery in backwards the first time?

If your 80A fuse is blowing, check for MAJOR shorts around the harness (especially main relay area, any black wires with yellow stripe). A short this big should be obvious.

you have to have the 80a fuse in because the other fuses in the block all run through it, i also belive that the fuse was blown b4 i put the batt in the first time and i know for a fact the batt was in right all the other fuses are good i didnt know something as small as a short or fuse could cause everything to stop working

Did you recently reinstall the alternator?? Check the wiring there... especially the main charging lead- that it's not touching something.

Did you blow the 80a fuse again?

With the battery disconnected, Take a multimeter and check for direct continutity between the positive terminal (car side) and the negative terminal (car side)
If you have almost no resistance, you have a dead short somehwere.
The problem is, that's what it sounded like you had before you put the battery in.. and you fried whatever wire was carrying the load/short- so I bet now you will have 0 continuity.

The whole description of the problem suggests the battery was installed backwards or incorrectly and you killed your car.

#1 did you hook up ground last???
#2 do you have a multi-meter so you can test anything?
#3 if it is a bad ground it is because you melted something, is there any burnt plastic smell anywhere?

Yep, sounds like the battery is hooked up backwards. The positive cable should be the one closest to the firewall.
