Few questions bout turbo

howdy peeps, havent posted in a while but anyway, i'm thinking of getting turbo for my 7. Now the problem is every time i ask someone if i should or not they say something along the lines of "shouldn't you just get a t2 engine and drop it in?" and i'm wondering about that myself because my engine was rebuilt i'd say less than 5000 miles ago and so was my tranny and clutch. So i'm thinking maybe i should just bolt a turbo on that bad boy and see what happens.

oh yea, engine is also ported (not sure how much it was ported but i think it was just a good street port or something)

anyways thx for the replys and stuff

You will need to do alot more than "just bolt a turbo on that bad boy and see what happens", unless you don't care about your engine. You need alot of supporting modifications to insure that it won't blow up, much less run correctly. If you don't know what those mods are you may be in over your head.

A turbo 2 swap is 100 times more realistic and practical.

you would need Fuel manegment.. the TII Lower and upper intake manifold.. you would need the TII MAF the TII ECU. etc. it would be more effiecant to do the TII swap. but sence your motor is freshly rebuilt i know i wouldnt do the swap.. neither Turbo it.. i would run it and just modifie the NA as much as possible.. but if you are dead set on turboing the NA then go for it.. i dont think you would have much a problem sence it is freshly rebuilt and ported.. but you would ned to make sure its gettin the currect amount of fuel..

Whip the NA motor, upgrade suspension, exhaust, wheels, tires, brakes, SS lines, replace all bushings, some injectors (for later down the road if you wanna boost, and if your port is big enough they may help...)get a nice EMS for it, and enjoy it. If you haven't done some of those already. NA FC's are very, very fun cars, and given your motor is ported, it's probably relatively quick, too.

When the time comes to turbo it, sell off the parts you can't use, get a TII engine/drivetrain and get to work. You'll be halfway there... won't have to use the stock ecu if you got a nice aftermarket EMS, and can make nice power and have a very nice car, because the other parts of it are already upgraded to your taste/liking/performance goals.

I would sure hope not, but you might be suprised by what some people think is a good idea. I would suggest saving money up and then selling your car and upgrading to a turbo T2.

If you have a second driver then it might be better to swap T2 components in. I would only suggest this if your car is in great condition in and out.

Good luck,

ST3!
