Few more questions

Hey again.

I found in the classifieds last night an 89 TII. Unsure of mileage. The add says that the turbo's broken, but he has a replacement for it, and that the body's damaged, but he has replacement parts for that too. I'd like to get a turbo. He wants 4000 for it, the replacement turbo, and body parts. First question is, do you think its worth it? Second question is, how hard is it to replace a turbo? Third question is, with a turbo, can you still run 87 pump gas?

Rick

4000? That's a lot...I might pay 2K, but not 4K.

You could run the turbo on 87 pump, but i wouldn't recommend it.

What would happen with running 87? What would be a better octane to run?

The highest octane you can afford.

The lower the octane the easier it is for the engine to predetinate (meaning the fuel explodes before its suppose to) and this can damage/destroy an engine.

I know you could run 87 on a COMPLETELY bone stock, stock boost, s4 (87-88) TII but I'm not sure about the s5 since it had higher compression and higher stock boost. My guess would be no since the s4's were probably borderline with the 87 octane. Just run 91/92 whatever premium is in your area and be safe with that.

NA's can run as low of octane as you can find just fine, until you start playing with timing and other things.
