A few little questions

Hello everyone!
I'm not really "new" to this forum...been reading quite often, but this is my first post

Well, i got an RX-7 1989 a few months ago:

It runs like a dream...no engine problems what so ever...i got 145 on it.
Only thing that annoys me is my brake, it makes a lot of noise when i brake...it scares me >_> heh

I want to know if there are any things i should do to it...any new parts or good mods or whatever.
I've been reading about all these problems on the forum but i never had any yet...i don't know if i should trust it

My clock does turn off while driving, but that's not a big deal to me.

One thing that i don't trust for sure is the oil consumption.
I've been reading all over the place that it consumes quite a lot, but mine doesn't...
I changed the oil 4 months ago...been driving a lot and it's still full.
Did i misunderstood something or might there be a problem?

What's up with the 5th and 6th port or something?
Read about it and vague ways to test if they work but i don't get it.
Where exactly are these ports? :S
Me = n00b

2 other little questions...
1. My engine is kinda dirty, some rust here and there and white spots O_o"
Can it do any harm to clean the engine...and what do i use?
Some pics:

2. I got some rust and a few scratches on the outside of the car as well, especially the passengers door.
I'm planning on painting it but i can't make up my mind if i should paint it black or leave it white...
I know i could have asked anyone else but since you are RX-7 owners as well i want to ask you.

noisy brakes = change your brake pads
should you trust the forum members? = no
clock flickers = re-solder it or get a new idiot light cluster
does the car take forever to hit redline? Or does it have a real problem with it's low end but really good high end? = check your 5th and 6th ports. They may be stuck
engine's dirty = do a search on how to clean it. There are plenty of threads.
paint = give it a rainbow paintjob

Dude yeah your car has pieces from other series Rx7's on it. Plus the exterior is a s4. I really dont think your car is an 89. Who did you get your car from? Did they tell you it was an 89?

OMG...what the heck is my car??? O_o"
1st gen parts???

Ok i'm REALLY confused now.
The guy where i bought it said it was a 89...the official papers say it's build in 03-88 and the manual i got with it is from 85.

I did find a few things in my car that said FB...but that might be nothing.
On my meter it has FB34 and somewhere in my engine it has FB05.
But i've been looking at pics of other FC's and the engine looks the same.
It didn't say what year they were tho >.<"
What year is my car?!?

1. Check...having that done next saturday
2. i'll keep that in mind :P hehe
3. i'll have that checked as well
4. What's the best way to test that?
5. I'll check that out
6. NO! >_>

I'm going to a special RX-7 workshop next saturday and having my car checked up on by specialists...i'm too confused now, plus i wanna shop for some cool stuff.
I need a new exhaust and i'll get me some new brake pads.
Anyone got some recomendations on what else i should buy?

www.euro-rotor.nl

PS: i just saw the tires in the FAQ...why do i have either convertible or Infini weels?
Or did i miss something again

No you guys have mixed him all up.

The Euro models got flapper valve aux ports and a distributer, because emissions are not as big concern as on US models.

Don't confuse the poor guy any further. His car is mechanically correct for the Euro models.

But it does look like an 88 instead of an 89, but again a 3/88 build is an 88 model.

Whew...you guys really had me worried there :P
I guess it still has a few weird things to it but i'm glad the engine is ok.
But how do you explain my low oil consumption?

Probably not flooring it enough.

Remember with light throttle and low RPM shifting you use very very little oil, in the MOP

Thanks for your help guys!

Another thing...when shifting from 1 to 2 it makes some noise as well, even with the pedal way down...plus getting it into reverse can be a problem as well sometimes.
Get a new clutch?
