The G/B wire near the alternator is likely for the water temp switch used for the electric cooling fan, if equipped.

The G/B wire in FEM-02 on a non turbo is not for the cooling fan though. The G/B wire for the cooling fan on a non turbo would go to FEM-01.

Hmm I just saw that in the fsm , do you think that is a wiring difference between 86 87 & 88 ? Because mine is definately an 87 (january) na . That g/b did run to fem-02 and not 01 . In the fsm it says turbo is fem-02. and non turb is fem -01 , however wiring diplayed is not matching

Did you perform a continuity test w/the G/B wire near the alternator w/a G/B wire in FEM-02 to confirm it went to 02 and not 01?

The G/B wire in FEM-01 (front harness side) is it situated between G/W and Y/B?

Either there is a wiring difference between S4 NA's or the previous owner repinned some things. Mazdatrix should have manuals available for your year though ($212 plus shipping!).
