Feeler interest. Mariah Cold Air Box.

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone is interested in the Mariah Cold Air Box. I thought if some people wanted to get them, maybe we could try and get a group discount. As of right now, I have no idea what type of discount(if any) could be arranged or how many people would have to get in on it. Just wanted to gauge interest to see if it is something to look into. You can see the box at their website. Mariah It's listed under products, engine, cold air kit section. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks.

Yeah...if it cost about half as much.

Also, where does the "cold air" come from unless you cut a hole where the washer bottle is (which will be mainly blocked if you leave the bottle in, although some air will be able to get in... I don't think you could fit 1300 CCs of air through there very well though), or feed it in there through the stock funnel?

If that box sealed off that area very well, hardly any air would be able to get in there (with modifying it...but the only area that could really give you any air flow except cutting and removing the washer bottle).

That's still just a tiny little slit.

We're talking about 1.3 liters of air per revolution here...

Meaning 57.7 liters of air every second at redline.

Here is my modified Mariah cold air box. There are gaps between the box and the metal of the car. If the slit isn't enough for the intake its at least providing some colder air to dilute the heat from whatever engine bay air gets through there. I've been thinking about getting some rubber or foam and trying to seal it better.

Oh I did a bit of trimming to some of the metal underneath the headlight cover for better flow.

The hole was enlarged to accomodate my 4 inch intake.

This is a good idea for anyone who just has a cone filter sitting in their engine bay. True it's not a real CAI but no one sells something like that that I'm aware of. Not to mention you need to cut a hole in the fender, etc. The point of this thread was to see if there are some people who are interested in this. Maybe we can get a group discount. I know my friend has a bonez intake with no heat shield. And if someone is too lazy to fab up a heat shield, there's no way they are gonna make a CAI. I just thought it is a nice product, and if you can get enough people in on it, you could get the price down some at the same time. I will probably get one anyways, but if ten guys getting one knocks $20 bucks off the price...right on. And to Juiceh...nice pics man. Everything looks good. Is that the vented headlight cover they sell too? As long as this is a thread about the cold air box, how was the fitment? Did you have to do anything to make it fit, or was it already perfect?

The fitment was fine. Its originally designed to fit the stock TID. That was a little tight, but that might have been cause the ends of my stock TID had been cracked a re-glued back together a few times.

Yeah thats their vented headlight cover. The cover by itslef doesn't do **** since there is a bunch of metal blocking it. But as you can see with a dremel or your choice of cutting tools that can be fixed.

*edit*
I was a bit dissapointed that the box didn't come with any rubber suround to seal the areas on the sides and bottom like they have that nice rubber one the top to seal against the hood. I'd like to find some of the same stuff and use it on the sides and bottom and see if there is any sort of difference.

Yeah, that would be cool if it had the rubber all around. Thanks for posting the pics. Everything looks great. Too bad you already have one....so far I've got one person other than myself interested. lol.

Well, more than one is technically a group..... lol

I'd be interested if they weren't so much dough. I can't imagine it being that hard to fab up yourself out of sheet alum or carbon fiber.... The headlight cover would be harder to do, but IMO is just for looks. Would probably work better to funnel air from before the rad into the air-box area with ducting of some sort. Good racing shops sell all kinds of automotive ducting for brakes and such... might be able to rig something up. I plan on doing something like this after I get my car rebuilt and driving again. Hehe.

Come to think of it, removing the wind shield from the hood on the right side of the car, you COULD get a decent supply of cold air, because not only do you have that one small slit in front, you have the slightly larger slit on the left side, and the slit on the right side (if you trim the rubber seal a bit).

Combine this with the flow you can get through the area around the washer bottle (cutting a hole above it but not removing it).

And then seal the top of a shield off with rubber foam, and you've got a decent intake...
