It's pointless... FD guys are swapping to the S4 clutch type LSD because it's better...

FD internals (Torsen LSD) fits into FC TII diff case

here in Europe, we get only open diff in TII's, so swapping FD torsen in is big upgrade for us

Thats debatable. Many FC guys are swapping in torsen diffs because they think its better. Basically, it comes down to what its used for. Clutch type diffs are good diffs, but need to be rebuilt periodically. Torsen type diffs don't need to be rebuilt. I think clutch's are a little faster reacting, but I could be wrong on that. If you want to swap in a trosen and you have an NA, then you can get the diff from certain miatas and swap over the internals. Theres a good writeup on how to do it.

The Torsen unit on an FD rear end is superior to the clutch type LSD found on S4 TII's in every aspect (I think...) except drag racing. The Torsen does not handle instant torque launches very well.

Thats what I thought, I just didn't want to say it withough making sure first. Is their any difference between the miata unit and the FD unit besides torque handling capacity?

Yea you're right... I'm not a big fan of Torsen LSD's though... They feel mushy compared to a clutch type IMO... But yea I guess it's all in what you use it for... From my experience though, the clutch type seems to transfer the power quicker in curves too, which is pretty important on tight courses...

Can the FD case bolt on my FC?? It's a S4 N/A. Im running a cosmo 13B-RE engine with over 300hp, can the miata differentiel handle it??? I'll do almost everything with the car, drag, lapping, autoX, drift so i guess im better to go with the torsen differentiel??

What should i do???

Thnx

Phil

The Torsen would be a bit more reliable... I would go with a KAAZ myself swapped into the TII pumpkin...

No the case will not fit, but the guts, the actual differential itself will fit fine into a Turbo FC case.

KAAZ doesn't make a Torsen LSD though specifically for the FC. They only have a 1.5way Viscous and Open type differential. Now they do make a Torsen for the FD which I guess would work in its place since the internals of a FD fits into a FC pumpkin. I myself will stick with a Viscous type Differential.

But can the miata unit handle over 250lbs/torq?? Did some of you ever had experience with this differentiel?

The Miata is a 7 inch diff, so it only works for non turbo FCs.

But I doubt that it would handle 250 ft/lbs peak regularly.
