Question FD Inj > FC?

Will they work? I have several FD 850s laying around the shop... Will they work in the FC?

Yes, No? Why, Why not? A Work-around if the answer is 'no.'

Thanks.

No

Work-around:
1) Install a custom fuel rail that accepts side feed fuel injectors.
2) Install an aftermarket fuel computer to control the larger injectors, otherwise your engine is going to run ultra-rich and run like crap. Note that professional tuning is recommended for this.

Of course, the two people who'd tell me something that I'd expect to be the correct information respond first.

So if the only work-around, for this, is a different kind of rail, where does one acquire said rails?

@Aviator: I was pretty sure that the computer system was going to need tuning; going to be running a PFC, so that'll be covered.

@Arghx: What's you take on this one?

Here's the deal. These are the engines I can think of that use side feed injectors:

1) 3SGTE
2) SR20DET
3) EJ255
4) EJ257
5) 13BREW
6) 13BRE
7) VG30DETT
8) RB25DET
9) 2JZGE/GTE

there might be more Nissan and Subaru engines that use them. But nobody converts from top feed to side feed. They convert from side feed to top feed because there are for more choices out there for top feed. You can make custom top feed rails with rail stock, but to my knowledge you can't easily do so with side feed rails. I've never tried it but I can't see an FD rail working.

you're going to pay more for a custom side feed fuel rail than you are for just some new bigger injectors.

You can get 1680cc top feeds for like $100

Sell the FD injectors, use the money to buy what you need.

side feed injectors are uncommon and not worth the effort let alone other issues aside from getting the FD fuel rails to fit the FC engine. the top feed injectors are the easiest to switch from one size to another, FD side feeds need to be bored out if you want larger injectors which also cuts into their reliability to hold their rated output levels which results in inaccuracy.

the side issue is that only a small handful of shops are also equipped to service those injectors.

Right on.

This was kind of an investigative inquiry, since I have a few injectors, sitting at the shop.

One of the project cars has the gnarley, top-feeds in it, so i was curious if the ones that came out are/ were usable in the vert.

I certainly understand the better option of just picking up some top-feeds and getting it over with. Once I get done with the swap in one FD, and get another reassembled I'll look into just doing it this way and getting if over with.... Doing my norm and trying to use what I've got, at hand, ya know?

My current project car - other than the vert, is 'The Beater' and I just got the V-mount set-up pinned on, did the simp.seq setup and have to spend a few days tuning it...

Unfortunately, I don't quite have the option to dump 100% of my time into the vert, anymore... Mildly back-burner, minu-s the seats, cage harnesses and wheels that went in/ on within this last week.
