FD Alternator Fitment Issues

Ok so i finally got around to installing my FD alternator on my S5 TII but there is a problem. The back of the alternator seems to be hitting the wire harness so that I can't push it down to get the belt on. How am i supposed to fix this??

The problem I had was that the bottom of the alternator was touching the water pump\water pump housing. Your best net is to get a .5 to 1inch longer belts!

I ended up grinding the bottom of the alternator, in order to gain some more room, plus .5 inch longer belts.

i had the same prob on my 91 n/a it was hitting wires but the wires had just enough slack to move them out of the way but i had belt slipping issues after i installed it now i got a s5 t2 i hope i can install it in there without any fitment issues or belt slipping probs

That's what i was thinking. But i have almost no play before it hits the intercooler (ARGH!) I may just grind a little bit and try to move the harness. Get the best of both worlds.

I cut a piece out of the alternator housing to fit mine.

longer belts would have worked but ... to each his own =]

I had a sim. problem with the s6 on my s5 n/a. I ended up having to swing the b+ post arm outwards the fenderwell to keep it from shorting on the UIM. Not quite the same but similar.

Turbo guys have the same issue, ecpet with the intercooler instead of the UIM.
