The unit itself is a direct bolt on but you'll have to bore out the FC's pulley to fit the new alt's center shaft.

For S5 owners wanting to swap, is it suggested to get both the FD alt with a corresponding pulley built for the FD?

you can not use the FD pulley on the FC, cause the FD does not use a V-belt...

this is my setup with the FD alt:

(the bracket in the 2nd pic wasnt finished yet...)

i made the bracket myself, only real problem is to make the pulleys align.

I used a dremil and slowly bored it out and constantly checked to make sure it was still centered/balanced.

or a number of places make a pulley for the FD alt. going onto an FC that is v-belt, most are dual groove so you can run two belts if you have your air pump removed. Mine is billet aluminum and even has a niffty little rotor machined in the front of it.

Good luck w the nut. It will run you probably 20 bucks now.

The FD alt doesn't exactly line up straight. You can see its off a few deg. But it doesn't really make that big of a difference.

Another thing that was a bitch (at least for me) was finding a belt that fit. If you can't find one that fits well, you'll have to get a new upper bracket (the long curved one) or jerry rig something up.

Ugh, I hate that setup. It seems you went through the effort of getting rid of the AC compressor (easier access to the spark plugs) and now there's an alternator in the way!

Does anywhere sell a high output alternator for a s5? Mine has been getting pretty low on the charge and I plan on running a system in the future. I hate it when the headlights dim..

i wanted to get rid of the AC cause i never used it and was taking up space, weight and some power! acces to the plugs will still be easy, cause the alt does not come past the first housing....

Just get an FD alternator. The stock fc one is around 80 amp. The fd one it arou 115 - 120 amp. They're not hard to come by.

I just HAPPEN to have an fc pulley bored out to accept the FD shaft lying around- I have since gone with a serpentine setup, and no longer need this one.

It has already been bored out to 17mm- and spins dead center.
Who wants it?

I used an Older GM pulley on my 5. Worked fine. You can find them anywhere.
Direct fit no issues.

GM? wow- they are using metric pulleys? I think 17mm = 21/32 + a frog's hair
