Smile FC turbo II, series 5 rebuild ?

Hello wankelfreinds,

I am about to rebuild my 91, FC turboII series 5 engine, and have found out that the front iron is broken in the waterseal, so I have to get a new/used one, allso I need a new flywheel for this car ! my questions are 1. is the front iron specifik for the TurboII series 5 ? or can I use iron from the series 4 of maybe even NA FC ? I have been told that the flywheel can be used from an FD twinturbo, is this true ? and if, do I need speciel parts/other parts to have it fit or does it go right in ? thank's in advance guys ;o)

The FD flywheel is interchangeable with yours.

you can use a S4 TII front iron but it's preferrable to use the same series 5 iron, the port runner is slightly larger on the S5 irons.

no you can't use an n/a iron, no way, no how. remember they are 5/6th port motors. you can use an n/a center iron but not the secondary front/rears.

Hello Karack,

Thank's a lot for your reply ! ok, so it IS possible to use an S4 front iron, is there any other differences between the irons ? if not, what would it do that the port runner is slightly larger on the S5 irons ?

When the flywheel is interchangeble with the FD, can one use a clutch allso from an FD ?

you can port the runners on both irons to match, or just leave it as is. it's not a big enough of a difference to affect much.

can't use an FD clutch, it's a pull type and would require running the FD transmission/hydraulics which uses a different mounting system. can of worms.

Hello Karack,

Ok, thank's a lot for your big help, so nothing else is different from an S4 to S5 iron, than larger runners on S5, I assume it is not a big effort to port match the irons if you have the tools then, the problem is, I can get hold of S4 iron but not S5 as it is right now ;o)

any porting tool can get you there with the S4 iron, or just run it with the stock port, personally i prefer to port it but i also have the tools to do it easily.
