FC troubles, what do you think?
Hi guys,
Well to start off I want to say i'm new to the rotor world. I'm a piston guy but I have a first gen which I haven't had problems with and that I love ofcourse. But I recently picked up a S4 and i'm having issues with her. Here goes...
First off I think the starter is on its way out, sometimes it starts easy, sometimes it takes a while to get it to crank fast enough. Once it is running I have to give it a little throttle to keep it from dieing. Once it is warm it idles but extremly low (around 500rpm) and if I try to floor it the car boggs and dies. If I roll onto the throttle it will rev only to about 3000ish and they starts to bogg again. Driving is pretty much impossible since as soon as I try to giver in gear she boggs and again dies.
So here is what i've done with my limited knowledge of these cars. I suspected a charging problem so I had a FD alternator which I modded to fit (yes I did the wiring too). So after that it still did the same thing. I tried to clean and inspect all the grounds in the engine bay. Accept the one thats under the intake manifold which seems to be hard to get at. Still same problem. I build a test lamp to try flashing the ecu. It's weird because I got a code one time and them nothing, but i didn't have a pen to write down the sequence.
I thought it was a fuel problem since there was a leak, which I fixed and wasn't it either. I did in the process manage to flood her real good hehe. Again I didn't know it could happen so fast. So I drained the oil, pulled the plugs and cranked her for a few mins. Replaced with new plugs/oil and ATF in the ports. It must have been a long day and I wasn't even thinking about the smoke so I started her up in the shop haha, well lets just say we had some very unhappy neighbors
Anyways, basically I want to know what to check next. Should I look at the TPS? Could ECU be the problem? Maybe some of the wiring? Seems like there might still be a draw somewhere but I dont know enough about the wiring on FC's so i'm a little puzzled.
Any help would be much appreciated as I'm still learning how these bloody triangles work
Thanks!
