FC newb's car won't start :(

hi

i've been rather frustrated lately ever since my FC decided not to start up anymore. a friend pointed me in the direction of this forum in hopes of finding some people that would be able to help me :P.

my first situation was that my car was acting like my battery was dead, so i got the battery recharged.. then got a new battery. it still acted the same. i then proceeded to replace the alternator, since i already knew the alternator was going bad. after that i replaced the spark plugs, and to no surprise the retard that owned the car before me had the wrong spark plugs in (he had all 9's in both leading and trailing slots). so now that i've replaced the spark plugs/alternator i try to start the car. after cranking i get a loud and repeated *clack* sound (like.. clack clack clack clack clack, etc..) at this point, i'm completely clueless as to what it is. naturally one would assume its the starter, but i've had some people tell me that they don't think thats the issue or w/e. oh and i probably have a parasitic wire somewhere. i have to unplug the battery every time i turn off the car or else it drains the battery on its own when its off. so here i am in hopes of salvation!

btw the car is an 88 GTU NA. thanks for taking the time to read my post

I remember having that problem turned out I replaced the starter and solenoid and still no work (but i needed a starter change, worn down teeth) turned out some ground wires that ground to the engine bay and other areas had built up enough to make the grounds horrible...check all grounds, if engine is filthy, go by some foaming engine bay cleaner and give that thing a good rinsing, check your starter, maybe give it a love tap, and if nothing check your ignition wiring

also for ur parasite wire (just finish reading the rest of ur post) if u have rear bins or glove box light or aftermarket radio, check to see if the light still is on if closed or if your radio is sucking the power or just install a killswitch

First answer...
For the grounds look along the engine bay for grounds....Grounds are wires that have been bolted/screw into something metal to carry away electricity ( - ) I believe the starter ground is on the transmission (been awhile since I have changed that) wire brush the area to remove dirt or corrision

Second answer...
Check to see if that little button (the one that when pushed down the bin is closed) push a few times to loosen up, either take it apart or if worst case, cut the power or ground to it, your problem most likely involves the switch that tells it if its open or not...

Hope all of this helps........
