My GXL doesn't have cloth seats, it like vinyl or some kind of pleather. Everything else is satisfactory in my opinion.

that dosnt get rid of the 80's look. it just adds color to the crappy layout of the 80's dash. when i was in VW/audi we used to swap dashs from one model to another. we used to swap A3 or corrado dashes/seats into A1 and A2 jetta's/golfs worked really nice, and looked alot better. i dunno if theres any chance of putting a 3rd gen dash in a 2nd gen, or even a rx7 dash and what not. but it would be nice.

heres a picture of a corrado dash.

Well, if you don't like the dash, make a new one, and mold it over the original dash frame. If you don't like the cracking materials, recover it something nicer.

I don't think that the dash layout is crappy. All the controls are within easy reach. They're well-marked and easy to read.

Sure, I think the dash is a little boxy, but it's simple and clean. If the black plastic trim and vinyl materials were a little richer, (recovered with nicer stuff) it could improve the look and feel.

I think the dash/center console is hideous... but the S5's change makes the interior look MUCH better.

If you wanna see ugly dashes -- check out 1G talons/eclipses... thats some of the ugliest **** i've ever seen in my life, and they're newer than 7s

I agee, there are worst interors out there. Haha, the 1st gen DSM interior is HORRIBLE!

To tell you the truth, I actually like the FC interior. The way the door panel top part sweeps around to the dash, etc. An S5 center console upgrade makes it a bit more modern too. Oh yeah, I don't like the old 2 spoke steering wheel either. I also absolutely HATE the red/maroon color. Its just horrible and I have no idea why Mazda used that color. Blue and grey are ok. Black is just gorgeous. I just got my full black interior together with leather seats and door panels. Now its time to gut out the blue interior...

Just my opinion though. I still feel the FC interior is still very modern compared to most cars of that year. For example, the interior looks way better than my '87 BMW. (But BMW parts quality is better still.)

The two spoke steering wheel is god awful in my opinion. That's the dorkiest part of the interior in my opinion. The shifter is kind of high, but I like it like that.

Anything is better than a 93 Tempo, even a 1G Talon/Eclipse/Laser.

I don't think the 1G is so bad. It's actually a nice design, with easy to read gauges, easy to reach controls, and with the particular model I have, barebones and simple. The door panels are hard plastic, which tends to look rugged and clean.

The fit and finish, however, isn't as good as an RX7 (then again, what do expect for an $800 beater car, but it's in great shape for what I paid for).

i see you dont understand how much it costs a car manufacture to do simple things! making a nice rounded and contured interior is expensive to do. Even if it is made of cheap material. The fit and finish is always a lot different in a cheap car vs. an expensive one.

i think the FC's interior is fine.. those cars posted dont look much better to me.. they all look 80'ish. reamia your cars interior looks fantastic, i would also like to know where you got the shift *** and ebrake cover, and what you use to color the console blue? the only complaint i have about the interior is how easily it breaks on the S4's... stupid radio surround

The FC's interior doesn't look bad, it's just a bit... spartan.

If everything is in good shape (no cracks in the plastic and clean) everything looks good to me, with the only exception being the stock stereo. Most of the interiors I've seen has an aftermarket unit so that's not important.

I'd prefer the gauge lights to be blue instead of red though, but that's a small gripe.

Yeah.. at first I hated the all red lighting in the interior.. but then it started to grow on me once it got spiced up a bit with my new headunit (blue), then I put in an autometer boost guage on the apillar and its also backlit red, so it looks really nice.

The FC interior definitely looks better than that of the '86 IROC-Z I owned. It also looks better than the Supras of the same era, IMO. I'm of the opinion that Mazda has had some of the best looking interiors for their time (ie: '93 and newer MX-6's, '94 and newer MX-3's, etc.).

Is the Fc's interior ugly? No

When it's compared to some of the other common sports cars from the mid-late 80's it's acctually quite nice.

With enough money and time anything can be done.

there's always a last resort in this situation, if your really that unhappy with your Rx-7's interior.... sell your car and splash acid in your face!!

I love FCs interior. Sure it doesn't look that nice but the controls are easy to reach and simple. I think it really looks nice for 80s car. I sure miss the Supra's interior though. Gotta love that driver centered dash(center part is slanted towards the driver. It was a bitch for a passenger to mess with the stereo though :p ). I personally love red interior. I was thinking about getting red interior for Supra. IS300 had orangish red lighted dash and I loved it, too.

I love my interior. The center tach is my absolute fav.

There are a ton of little things that can be done to the interior to update it. I made custom matching leather door inserts and shifter, ebrake boots. Nicely done guages and panels, and headunit cleanly installed, seats, steering wheel, etc...

All these little things add up to really bring the interior out of the later 80's and early 90's.
