FC front and rear lift info

Here's a tidbit I found in an edition of "Rotary Rocket" magazine from Dec 1985, speaking of the new FC.

"... the coefficient of drag equals 0.31, better than anyhing in its class. And, with the optional aerodynamic package, it drops even further to 0.29. With its small frontal area, the new RX-7 encounters very little air resistance. The coefficients of lift, front and rear, are 0.08 and 0.14 to give tread forces which are balanced firmly on the road."

I do not know if the lift figures are with or without the optional aero bits (small deflectors in front of wheels and the small black rear spoiler).

Anyhow, figured I'd post this, since it apppears to come right from Mazda and those figures might be hard to find in modern literature.

For drag and lift, the only effective rear spoiler from Mazda is on the '87 Sport model which is the flat black rubber 944'ish little spoiler.

Any other Mazda rear spoiler for the FC is appearance only. The Sport piece is the only functional spoiler. This is why the Bonneville high speed FC uses the Sport spoiler

when i went from no spoiler on my 87 se to my 91 s5 i could feel a fairly noticeable difference in how the rear felt on the highway, the 87 always seemed a bit looser than the s5, espically at high speeds 80+. it has to do something, i know it causes drag but my s5 always feels smoother and more glued to the ground at speed.

And I found that with aeropack we have Cd=0.29, Fcl=0.08 and Rcl=0.07 !

In my opinion this is very good result for a street car.
