I think that looks pretty good on a black FC.
They are sprayed with a couple of thin coats of VHT Niteshades, and then polished with several levels of 3M paint polish.

They're not REAL dark, just darker then stock. The lighting in the picture makes them appear darker then they actually are. The coating is thin enough that the factory reflectors still reflect just fine. I compared them vs. a stock light in daytime and night time, and the difference was not perceivable from 10-15 feet away, even in sunlight.

It's just a matter of proper application (thin coats) of the paint, and polishing it correctly. If the paint is polished, the reflection in the black helps make it appear darker then it is, vs. flat paint, which has to be thicker for the same "darkness"

I've never been hasseled about them by the police, and from my testing, I do not believe that recognition by other cars was adversely affected. It does open you up for fault claims in an accident if someone rear ends you though.

I have stock S5s now, those tails aren't on it any longer (did a complete S5 conversion to the body).

Regardless, thanks for the compliments.

some super custom fc's get bad enough (see rx-7 with integra front end and accord altezzas), let alone their actully being aftermarket rice parts for it. see me...people ask why i spraypainted my car. i tell them it was because i used all my money on the turbo under the hood. the way my car looks to other people has never really been a big thing to me. sure, i put in racing seats, gauges, and all that interior crap, but thats like, more for me...you know? hell, ill take running 12's over altezzas any day.

Same type of reason why the company that makes some of the inks I use will suggest (in person at events) that dish soap be used to further lower surface tension. They can't however have it in writing, or just put it in their product in the first place, because though it's just dish soap it would be a whole world of customs heck to have it approved.
