FB to an FC
I am planning on selling my FB to buy a 2nd gen. I don't think I will get a T2 for the money I get from my 84 so what do you guys suggest I get?
I really like the ones with the T-tops, what model are those? Do they leak alot?
Has anyone put a TURBO13 b swap into like a GXL before? If you know anyone looking for a nice FB let me know. Or if you know anyone selling a FC let me know.
Thanks for all and any advice.

Targa tops. They do not come that way stock. You must have seen a modded one.
An FC can be almost as reliable as an FB, but it's more complicated so there are more things that might go wrong. Be sure to use a buyer's guide before buying to avoid a lemon and take good care of the cooling system. Use OEM thermostats only, besides other cooling system maintenance and other maintenance in general.

If you like FCs, just about any model has its advantages. You have to decide whether you want lighter weight, more luxury, better brakes, LSD, leather interior or cloth, etc., etc. You've decided on NA, but if you read the posts in this forum you'll see there is a big difference of opinion on what was the "ultimate" NA FC.
When I was shopping for my current FC, I had my heart set on another S5 like my old one, but I found a great low mileage S4 GTU. Since nice FCs don't exactly grow on trees these days, I'd suggest buying the best one you can find regardless of trim level.

out of the rotary game...
i believe the trim level goes like this if im not mistaken.
SE, GTU, GXL, Turbo.
but it like he said, it all depends on want: lighter weight, more luxury, etc...

There is even more trim levels than that, don't forget about the Base model, Sport Pkg, Luxury Pkg, GTUs, and Convertible. Not all of those trim levels were offered at the same times but they were still made.

There is the s4 (1986-1988) and s5 (1989-1992). NA and turbo for both, plus NA convertable for the s5. Everything else is pretty much just options. George84's link shows those. The s4 has more aluminum (lighter) and mostly more reliable parts, but the s5 has fixes to some s4 issues and a little more power.
Just find one without any serious problems that has everything you want.

Basically, don't worry too much about the model, just get a good, clean car.
S4's are lighter, S5's have a bit more power. Ideally, you want an s4 sport model, since they are the lightest model with the good brakes, but really almost everything can be swapped.
For example, my car started live as an 87 Base model with the only option as power steering. The previous owner swapped in a manual rack and did a 5-lug swap so it would have the good 4-pot brakes form the turbo/sport model. I swapped on the s5 intake so it now has the same power potential as an s5.
There is a buyer's guide at www.aaroncake.net to let you know what to look for. IF you have any questions, post on here one you have looked through all the FAQ's, etc.
Also, I would love to get a nice FB, but I NO money since I just rebuilt the engine in my car.

Dude, I'm the opposite of you. While the FC is a great car and IMO a better road car since the luxury went up and then up again with the FD.
I still miss the old FB, it is raw. Kind of a bare bones car. Shorter, ligher, not as wide. The FC has more manners and the suspension is like glue even with 185/70, but is more plush than FB and kind of wallows at speed on the interstate.
Between the FB and FC is alot of history. The introduction of fuel injection which changed the car greatly.
If I had to sum it up, it would be that both are great, but very different. The FB is better around town, while the FC is more of a 'touring' car and the FD even more so.
To be honest, the FC is a bit heavy and wide. While it is comfy it just doesn't have the thrill of the FB. The 80s had some great economy and lightweight sports cars which are all but gone. I think the lightest car nowadays is a Civic and that is over 2600lbs where 20yrs ago you had a Festiva that was 1700lbs and the FB around 2200.
You got the last of a dying, re: dead, breed.
Even a Miata went from 2182 in 1990 to currently over 2500. You can't find a sporty one ton anymore.
Just know what you're getting into and don't think you are 'moving up', which you are in the world of luxury and stability. The FC is a great combinaition of a pure sports car like the FB and a normal car with its creature comforts.
I may be sounding like I want to trade with you since I'm quite fond of the FB, its just that the car is doing very well as of now.

I loved the fact that I literally was the ECU for my car.....for about a month. Getting my car tuned after putting in a rebuilt motor, headers, and the RB intake was the biggest pain in my ***.
The performance I recieved was awesome, but I am still barely over 110Whp. I know the car is setup for autocross and could spank alot of other $20,000 cars, but I don't ever got to do any SCCA stuff.
Plus I am starting to get the feeling that they are becomming out-dated.
But if you are looking for one with alot of upgrades-hit me up and we can work something out b/c shes for sale
