I have an 88 10th AE and always found rear speakers had lots of distortion. I bought a set of Pioneer 4 inch speakers and installed them in the tub with its own circuitry. It did not improve. While moving things around I noticed distortion stopped when the lid was unscrewed and lifted off the tub, and began when placed lid on tub. Has anyone else had this happen? Would a product like dynomat correct this and it appears to be vibration between the plastic.

If it's the seal between the pieces of plastic, don't bother with dynamat. Find thin foam, cut to a ring shape, and try sandwiching that between the two pieces of plastic. Fixed my distortion issues when I had strut tower speakers.

Honestly, you will probably never find strut tower speakers to be all that great because it is a poor placement for speakers. You might want to install door speakers or box speakers and put them in the hatch area (make sure to use a carpeted surface for the boxes else they will slide around under acceleration and braking.

Thanks. Sounds like the same issue. I will see what Home Depot has for foam type products. How thick of a foam did you use? Quarter inch?

II'm not sure exactly, would estimate 1 millimeter. It doesn't have to be thick, it just has to take up the space.

If you are using the old stock Set up in the back Strut towers they contain amps in those Buckets.
They are the *****..
That area will fit up to a 8 inch round speaker.( I have put 6,6.5 and even 8 inch subs in that hole.)

Again if you are running the stock stereo system,you are dealing with a 30 year old stereo..and now a days anything over 30 years old doesn't sound good any more..It just makes NOISE!

uh..speakers Iduley..Speakers ( I got 6.5 inch focals with the tweeter installed in the stock grill cover.)

I can see how you would get confused if I talked about installing eight inches into a hole then mentioning my EX..heh..

..seemed she wanted More BASS...hence the divorce..hahhahha!

I cut the hole into the grill and mounted the tweeter in the plastic.
The grill sits high enough so that the tweeter is "inside the main speaker" and doesn't hit it.
The Crossover is under the speaker in the strut tower with some sound batting around it.

You may notice the grill is not fully attached.That is because I still have work to do in the back and HAD it all together and then ended up taking stuff out of the rear again..
So it will remain loose until I got all the issues in the rear done..(carpet,Gas gauge,etc)

I actually used the cover for the bucket and installed into the tower. I did not use the entire bucket, bypassed those amps and wired directly to my stereo. Then I installed 2 10" subs in the hatch in small boxes. It has a good clean sound, you'r not going to out thump anybody but will get a real decent sound. I used 4 inch pioneer speakers for the front under dash and rear shock towers. My subs are just some el cheepos with a 250 watt amp.
