Fan Shroud Removal?

Hey guys. I took the time today to remove my AC. What a battle that was. Especially that damned condenser and the round canister just infront of it.

Anyway, I have to bolt the rad back on yet, and was wondering if I could leave the shroud off. The idea is to leave the condensor fan on, and wire it to a temperature switch to have it turn on to suck air into the rad, and then have the stock clutch fan suck the air out on the other side. Any ideas? I really like the look of the bay without the shroud. Also, I'm going to get one of those things that covers the front of the car up, between the headlights under the hood, to help direct air into the rad too.

Thanks
-Rick

Unless you have an electric fan, the shroud is there for a reason.

ya ..100% Rick..you need the shroud.. right now ..winter,cool air ..it's OK..but unless you plan on goin Electric..it should be put back on..I took mine off..I was floppin all over the top of the car ..(tryin to get the damn thing off)..I have mine off right now..as I'm checkin things ..with the body(gettin body fixed) ..but I'm lettin the Pro's at the collision shop put it back on!!..If you think the shroud was hard, try the fan bolts..they are fun too!

The fan's performance will be seriously compromised without the shroud. All you'll be doing is churning air around the engine bay. Much less will get sucked through the radiator than there would with the shround in place. The electric fan is there is assist the main fan, not almost replace it.

Your sarcasm is noted, pets, but for rookie mechanics, everything is a challenge. You started somewhere, didn't you?

No, No, No No. As with the heat shields, the shroud is there for a reason. That reason is to force the fan to draw air through the rad and oil cooler. Otherwise the fan just churns air in the engine bay.

A search would have turned up these topics (found on the first page of results):

None are prefect examples, but they all answer your question.
