Factory radio question
I have a 91 with the turbo interior package from the factory. I was wondering if it was normal for a factory radio to play cd-rw's. I didn't think radios back then played those types of cd's.
And whats those two buttons on the bottom for? Ones for driver and ones for passenger.

Are you asking about the Stock Pioneer???
The "two buttons on the bottom" are you talking about the the two on the console??? If so those are the headrest volumn. Hold it down for a few seconds and the headrest speakers will kick in

If it's the two buttons on the bottom of the actual stereo, it sets the balance depending on which buttons are selected for optimum sound location.
And it's been a few years since I used my stock radio, but I do remember playing CD-Rs and the stereo played them just fine. I'm not sure about CD-RWs, I always just burned CD-Rs. Blank media is cheap, so I never had a need to rewrite.

The two buttons are for listening field.. supposedly centers the sound on the driver or the passenger... supposedly...
My car had a factory stereo in it when i got it.. It would play CDR's, but they would skip if you hit anything bigger than a bottlecap..... I have a Boom Box from the late 80's that plays CDR's..... (some, and not others.... depends on what mood its in)
That whole non-CDR playing thing was an industry push to keep people from pirating CD's..... But it also has to do witht he tracking of the disc, its slightly different on a CDR and some of the lasers they were using couldn't pick up the tracks and still others didn't use the same disc info label... Its geek to me, but suffice it to say that some onlder ones will and some wont....
IMO, you should ditch the factory stereo, and get an CD/PM3player for 175 bucks that will kick its ***!!!. PLUS..... you can use the "blank" space you get with the mounting kit to mount your gauges, safc, boost controller.. whatever!!!

i plan on later upgrading....but for now, how do i make my cd player work? it will take in the cd act like its loading but then it won't read it. Also the cassette player just plays fuzzzz, or a shshshhhhhh sound, the car was sitting for 5 years i imagine this has something to do with it.
