Factory CD/Stereo which plugs?
Factory CD/Stereo which plugs?
I have purchased a factory stereo AE 2 buttons with CD to put in my 88 GXL. I seems to have more wiring harness wires than i need. Can someone tell me if this will work with this cars factory harness? I can get one in that will power and raise, lower the antenna, but no sound. I have a choice of a blue plug or a white plug and one slot for it to go in it seems. There are other connectors on the radio that link the components, so i dont know if any were miswired when I received it. Any help would be appricated.
This is the radio
The Plugs I have avalible, (notice there is a white/ red wire that was spliced by a prevouls owner. I dont knwow what kind of connector it might have had on it.

Power/Antenna connector it seems, i think i know this one atleast.

Yep, the white wire needed to go to the speaker amps. Once i did that and connected the antenna, I had sound well, on the rear speakers I do. I left the fronts unhooked.
To my diasapointment the "great condition" stereo I bought, the CD player does not work. it spins and then returns to the radio. I guess what can you expect for 18 year old electronics.

Which is why I bought a Sony 10 disc changer and a din plug from Radio Shack so I could plug it into the factory head unit. As set up. the head unit thinks it is seeing the factory cd player when I turn the Changer on.

try using a cd cleaner to clean the lens. or if you really want to do it right open it up and use some rubbing alcohol (or some sort of cleaner). just worth a try i mean what do you got to lose?
The stock stereo system was amazing in its day, but it's now an antiquated, worn out piece of junk. Any entry-level brandname head unit would spank it for both sound quality and volume. I don't get why people bother...
