Question Factory alarm beeps and interior lights

I have an '87 N/A that is acting up.

The problems have to do with the factory alarm. Sometimes with the drivers door open, the interior lights come on, and when locking the door I get a single beep. Then after I get out and close the door, the security light stays lit and then eventually flashes and then goes out. This, I think, is normal operation.

Lately, when I open the door to get out, the interior lights don't come on, nor is there a beep when I lock the door, nor does the security light come on.

Then on other rare ocassions, when I open the door the interior lights come on, I get a beep when I lock the door, and the security light comes on, but then the alarm beeps repeatedly. After I close the door the security light eventually turns off.

Is there a troubleshooting guide anywhere for the factory alarm? Also is there any info on how to bypass the alarm all together?

This may, or may not be related to the alarm, but about once every three weeks it floods when trying to start.

NO, there is no trouble shooting guide other than the factory shop manual supplement for 87.

To bypass the factory alarm unplug it. It is behind the glove box. You will need to jumper the two large gauge wires at the starter kill (blue plug into a relay near the driverside firewall/shock tower under the hood), when you unplug the factory alarm, so that the car can start.

Flooding is not related. Either your injectors are leaking, or the car is not being all the way warmed up when started everytime. Do a search on flooding, there is a ton of info on it.

Did you remove your ignition key before or after opening the door?

On the FD you must remove the ignition key BEFORE you open the door. Otherwise the alarm will not set.

Maybe the same for the FC?
