a/f ratio guage
when running the signal wire and connecting it to the wire under the hood, do you connect it on the sensor side of the connector or the side running back to the harness?

Neither, you should really connect it at the ECU end so you don't disturb the shielded wire in the engine bay. You can easily get power and earth there also.

Download the factory service manual, there is a section that tells you what every wire going to the ECU does.
