extrude honing

if i was to get my intake manifolds honed or ported would that make me run more lean from the better air flow or would it be the same?

you wouldn't notice any AFR differences since it is metered air, unless you start doing some serious mods then you will not be outdoing the stock airflow system tuning.

now question is, is it worth it? probably not for a just slight increase in peak HP at a loss of torque.

you are changing the volume of the intake runners so i would say yes. i'm sure mazda did their homework when designing the manifolds and their flow rates vs the compression and needs of the engine to balance bottom end vs top end performance. in the end you lose some to gain some is what i am trying to say.

With a stock ported motor you will probably lose a little bit of torque down low in exchange for a slight improvement in flow up top. With a ported motor the same is true, but the improvements will be greater.

For $500+ there are better places to spend your money first. Especially if this is a stock port motor.

I was quoted $625 + shipping on the last Turbo Intake manifold I asked about from them.

I ported my lim and uim and I agree with the said point of losing some low end touque, but it does seem to breath much better on the top end.

Its definitely something I plan on doing if the Fuji-Racing ITBs are ridiculously overpriced. My worries are that the process will damage the VDI. I think it was Icemark (correct me if Im wrong) who wrote about the process destroying two VDI's before they got it right.

Id really prefer ITBs though.

Yep, I went through 2 VDI valves on the first one they did for me, but the 2nd one, didn't have any problems.
