Question External wastegates

I haven't ever been able to find any decent information regarding external wastegates. That said, my question is does the wastegate spring strength matter if using electronic boost control?

you can never go lower than the spring, so dont use a 20psi spring if you want to run 10 psi every day.

Hmm, I was thinking the actuator was controlled only by the boost controller rather than actual boost from the turbo. But, then again, that is why I'm asking.

Seems I have finally found a good explanation of how the things work at
http://www.splparts.com/doc/tech/EBC.htm

So the boost controller connects the boost to the wastegate to press against the spring to open the wastegate, but before the pressure gets to that point, the boost controller just keeps the wastegate closed. Someone correct me if I am misunderstanding here, so as long as the spring strength is less than peak boost pressure, things should go smoothly, right?

dude. heres a better explenation. the waste get opens at a set psi. the boost controller just tricks the waste gate into thinking it doesnt see anything, so its stays shut tight. the boost controller then sees the approproate psi to run, and opens a valve that lets the waste gate see the pressure. it slamms open cus its more than the spring should see, and opens it. so yeah, when it gets back down to what you want it to, it closes the actuator so the waste gate closes again.
