This is on the TII since you mentioned extension housing, right?

Is it oily and nasty in the bellhousing?

If so, it is common on the TII trans that the alum front transmission cover that extends from the extension housing into the bell housing will start to leak after a rough engine pull/replace that has put a bad sideload on it.

I think Mazdatrix has a FAQ on it or something. Just replace the whole cover and gasket and make sure you use a "load leveler" on the engine hoist to line up engine and trans input shaft when pulling/replacing engine. It helps line it all up if you support the front of the trans bellhousing as well.

Uh, why no I haven't pulled my TII engine alot.... ;P

Thanks for the info on that....but I am talking about the extension housing where the shifter goes. That is the area that is leaking ... hard to tell from where but it is a mess around there.

check the threading on the bolts which hole the shifter ring down. I had a leak there as well after installing a short shifter, because for some reason the threads on one bolt got messed up. I put in new gaskets tried to tighten it down best I could. Hasn't leaked much since, but the only real way to fix it is to rethread it.
