Experts Timing Issue

I own an 86 n/a I recently rebuilt the engine. I am having trouble getting the car to start I think we have narrowed it down to a timing issue. I believe the crank anlge sensor may be off. When cranking you will hear a lound pop on the exhaust manifold side. Any suggestions on how to adjust the crank angle for this would be very helpful as my chilton manual is not very helpful.

Check the faq's in the sticky. You can find the FSM manual links and set the timing accordingly.

To install the cas correctly

Rotate motor clockwise by using a 19mm socket on the main pulley until the first mark in the pulley lines up

Remove cas and then remove the cover from cas.

Line up the mark on the cas gear to the mark in the body of the cas.

Install the cas back into the motor while holding the gears in the top of the cas.

The cas is now installed correctly. After getting the car started and the revs below 1k use a timing gun to line up the spark from the L1 post on the front coil to the first mark on the pulley. If you are still having issues you may have installed the wrong hub boss onto the motor. They are different depending if it is from an S4 or S5.
