Exhaust thoughts and questions.

So I am in the market for a new exhaust, basically since mine is crapping out on me. My original plan of action was going to be... the racing beat cat replacement pipe/presilencer (LINK) and then the borla cat-back exhaust (LINK).
After pricing this another thought came to mind, that being the racing beat road race exhaust system coupled with my stock mufflers. (header: LINK presilencer: LINK Y-Pipe: LINK and Extention tubes: LINK)
They add up to be roughly the same amount.
My questions are as follows.
Will the performance gain be roughly the same or will I get more from the road race being it having a header and not tapping off the stock manifold?
The sound from what I have researched will be about the same, true or false (albeit not that important)?
Is there another system I should consider? (IE: Just getting the cat replacement/presilencer and keeping the stock y-back)
I'm not really looking for a huge performance gain, just looking for some aftermarket exhaust system/setup that will last a while and be able to scale up if I eventually port my engine/get more upgrades.

I say just pick out some mufflers and get them welded on to the stock ypipe. The RB cat pipe is a good choice but if you want to save some money get the Bonez RAce pipe, at www.rx7.com.

Yeah, but I am trying to keep my ports actuated.
My mufflers are ok, its my first pre-cat thats rusting out, hence my choice of systems.
