Exhaust Systems

I’m wonder how does everyone feel about the racing beat exhausts. I know people praise their systems but I was wondering how they feel about specifically the cat back system. I was looking to try to stay around $1,000 dollar budget a little more or a little less it doesn’t really matter all that much to me. Obviously it’s stupid to place sound above performance so i’m looking for somewhere in the middle without having to spend thousands of dollars and was looking for input because as of now racing beat is all i’m finding.
EDIT: It is a 1989 GXL N/A

I think we had this conversation just a few days ago. Look in the 2nd gen section.

For me, I will likely mix and match with some help from an exhaust shop, after I ditch the OEM setup.

I've been running a RB cat-back exhaust on my '90 GXL since 2006. The mufflers are stainless steel and will never rust out. The y-pipe is mild steel and does eventually rust. I replaced my y-pipe back in 2019. It was still usable, but the flanges were rusting. You can expect to get a long lifetime out of RB exhaust. The RB exhaust has a nice deep sound to it. On my car, I'm also running a single high-flow cat. My setup is not overly loud and doesn't drone when cruising at highway speeds Overall, I've been happy with my RB exhaust.

Overall that’s seems to be the general consensus on the RB exhaust, and it will likely end up being my choice. I am slightly curious though does anyone else sell the RB exhaust through another website or should I buy it straight from RB because I was just trying to figure out if I could negate the $200 shipping price.

There's not too many other sources that I'm aware of other than Racing Beat, Mazdatrix or Lucky7Racing. They're all located on the west coast. Unfortunately, there's no way to avoid shipping costs. When I bought my replacement y-pipe in 2019, shipping from CA to VA cost me about $75. I'm sure it would cost more today. Another possibility would be to buy a used one off Ebay, if you can find one.

$75 isnt too bad. I recently inquired to shipping costs for RB and it was going to be around $250 for all the pieces shipped to Ohio. Ouch.

Yeah it was relatively similar for me but as he said there isn’t many options for exhausts, and the options that you do have are all on the west coast and shipping is expensive regardless. It was around $1,145 total and shipping was like 200.

That was just for a replacement y-pipe in 2019. That was 6 years ago. Shipping rates have increased since. It would be best to call the seller beforehand and ask for an estimate on shipping costs.
