exhaust sleeve fell out?
exhaust sleeve fell out?
ugh, 3rd time writing this because it doesnt wanna post.
anyways, i pulled the exhaust manifold off a NA s4 today to find one of the exhaust sleeves basically sitting in there. the best i can figure is the pins broke and the sleeve vibrated enough to wear away at the housing. is it rebuild time or are there ways around this? i figure JB weld wont hold up to the heat and dont really know what else. has anyone heard of this happening before? seems pretty off the wall to me.

dont worry about it, it wont hurt anything. You can try jbweld, im going to try it on my rebuild because im to lazy to drill new holes for larger pins. other things to try is a ring of exhaust gasket material, so when you bolt up th emanifold in squishes down and holds the sleve in place. Might need 2 so it doesnt leak. Worst case senario, just take it out, it wont hurt anything. That rotor might make more/less power then the other but who cares?
I think it was Reted or Aaron that told me not to take the whole sleeve out because of flow problems (somebody's already tried that, obviously)
Is the engine still together? Do you plan on breaking it down?

Lol, then by process of elimination it was Aaron then...
I posted a derivative of this question a couple of months back when I got my new rotor housings with that damn diffuser-thing in there, and the answer (from Aaron) was to remove the diffuser, but not the whole sleeve, because of funky exhaust flow problems...

Wow, that is just odd as hell. You might try taking small sheet metal trimmings and using them as wedges and tapping them in between the outer part of the insert ring and housing.
