Exhaust Question Small hole

Hello All,

The covers on the exhaust to my 88 GXL started to fall off today so I went ahead and removed them. While I was down there I decided to check for leaks, because I think I have a small one somewhere.

Right before the main cat there is a small little hole, there is one after as well. The small hole in front of the main cat had exhaust blowing out of it. This is not from a rock or anything it appears to be part of the cat. Is this some kind of pressure release if the cats are cloged? Does anyone know what Im talking about? Does this mean the main cat is clogged?

Thanks,

Replace the heat shields. If you don't, you will overheat things like the floor and transmission.

As for the hole, there are no factory holes in the cats. Putting a hole in there would create an unsafe exhaust system.

Its not the heat shields that protect the cockpit area. It was the shields on the bottom. I will try to take a pic and put it up later of the hole I was talking about.
