Exhaust Question

Hey guys, I just installed my N1 catback exhaust onto my GTU and I fired ti up and began to notice that there was smoke coming at the connection of the end of the cat converter and the beginning of the catback of the N1 exhaust. There was a lot of white smoke there. I initially thought that the smoke was from the gasket sealer I used, I know its not exaust smoke because there is not much for a way of escape for the exhaust to get out there, none at all. I also noticed that the tip of the N1 exhaust is hot, but the muffler itself isn't, note that I only had the engine running for a minute or so. Any ideas?

The tip being hot while the muffler isnt is normal. The smoke is most likely related to the gasket sealant or possibly something spilled during assembly. What sealant did you use?

I used Permatex Gasket Sealant. I didn't wait for the sealant to dry fully when I fired it up. Do you guys think that may be the reason for all the smoke? Note that it looked and smelled like somethign was burning.

If it wasn't fully dried, then tahts probably what the smoke is from. I wouldn't worry about it unless it continues to do it for a while longer, which is unlikely.

OK so I came back then next day, today, when I got home and fired it up again. I noticed that I may have, which means I pretty much did, put a small amount of sealant on the cat converter. I also noticed the same amount of smoke as there was the day before. I'm getting to think more and more that this is the sealant. But why would sealant smoke at high temperature when most gaskets get very hot? Also is it a problem for me to drive with my car in this condition?

I dont see where it would be a problem, just some sealant burning off more than likely. Nothing you really could have done to it to make it smoke other than spill something on it. I would just drive it like normal and ignore the smoke, should be gone in the matter of a few days at the VERY most. Ive never knows sealant to stick around for more than a few hours worth of driving.

how long have you ran it for? if you have just ran it for a couple minutes than its prolly still just sealant. i am also thinking it is sealant/gasket...

After an hour or more of driving itll go away. Gotta give it time to all burn off as much as it will, then it will be fine
