Exhaust mani upgrade for S4T?
Hello.. Well I believe my S4 either has a failing gasket, or cracked exhaust manifold so I'll be tearing into it shortly. I'm thinking I may as well upgrade while it is apart and noticed some cheap tubular exhaust manifolds on ebay... I searched ebay manifolds and found nothing, so I'm curious if anyone has tried these out, or if they're cheap junk... The only thing I could find on ebay was a used HKS unit but it was around $500.... I'm just thinking if my manifold is cracked I may as well upgrade now..... I know I will have to go externally gated etc.... if I go that route... If I could find a deal on a nice S5 mani and turbo, I'd just upgrade to that setup for now. Just want to get rid of the nastty exhaust leak/rattle.
Here is the ebay unit:http://www.ebay.com/itm/86-91-MAZDA-...sories&vxp=mtr
Thanks...

no. dont get that ****.
also, the s4 and s5 turbo have a proprietary bolt pattern that no company makes manifolds for.
actually, i think one company does, but its australian and i dont have the link any more.

Ok, for that much $ I figured it is probly junk that I'd have to modify to work. I've never had anything cheap ebay actually fit....
Guess I'll plan on going S5 mani/turbo.
Thanks

$5k on my '99 Eclipse GSX with Parts from Forced Performance and ETS..... PERFECT FIT.
I only mentioned ebay stuff because parts like manifolds are prettly slim for FC's.
If Forced Performance made a manifold for the FC's I'd be all over it!

Anything else I should know about pulling the turbo? I've done several DSM's (easy), and my 944 turbo twice (NOT easy)...<-have to pull plenum, move steering rack, etc....
Looks like the bolts may be a mother to get at on the FC...?
Thanks...

Oil feed lines are a little different. Just swap the S4 ones over to your new S5. The manifold heat shield is also little different from the S5 and doesn't match up. It can be made to fit, but it won't be pretty.

Sweet! Its coming with the sheilds and all, so I should be good to go... I'm going to try and re-use the exhaust gaskets, but nice to know I'll be using the S4 oil, coolant lines. I wasn't what to do there before. Thanks!

Exactly! I normally just replace gaskets regardless, but the Mazda ones are hella expensive..... I'm hoping I can re-use the exhaust gaskets. The turbo is supposedly off a low mileage car, so fingers crossed...
Thanks.
Thanks.

Looking at their S5 turbo manifold, the turbo mating flange is angled relative to the engine mating flange. This would either cause interference with the intake/block or space the turbo outward requiring a custom downpipe. And you'd have to re-do the A/C and heater lines, if you're into that kind of thing. Looks like the S4 one would do it too, but the picture isn't as good. Either way, it would be a lot of work just to run a stock 20 year old turbo.
Fabrication and materials look alright, but the design is definitely not drop-in.
