Exhaust leaks quick fix?

I changed my transmission out earlier this sspring and when I took out the exhaust, most of the flange had rusted to the gaskets so that when I took it apart, the flanges were no longer perfectly flat. Using brand new gaskets, it of course doesn't seal correctly and I have leaks. I don't have the time or the welding setup at the moment to put on new flanges and I intend to replace the exhaust with the complete TII (or at least most of it) from racing beat when I have the money. Anyway, the problem is the car needs to pass state safety inspection and I need a quick fix for this. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I was thinking of using the exhaust patch goop in between the gasket and the flange for now, but I don't know how easily it comes apart if I need to remove the exhaust again. Again this is a temporary fix. Any ideas?

Thanks

That could work, at least temporarily. As it is the cat that needs to be sealed, I'm thinking that wouldn't hold up to long. It's certainly an option though.

Thanks

if you want bulletproof ... remove all flanges ... replace with sipjoints ... try to use onls S.S. pipe ...make all male ends of pipe point in the direction of the exhaust flow ... small slits in the end of the femail pipe will help greatly to help the seal ... something else ... if you make the femail end just a little smaller so you have to heat it up to fit the mail end ... this will give you a leak free stink pipe ... lots of work but well worth it ... use only S.S. strap clamps and be souning good ... good luck.

Well it turns out that my problems are worse than previously anticipated. When I went to seal up the flanges I noticed that the Cat Back (Apex-i N1) is rusted out around the flanged almost completely. So that's the bigger of my exhaust leaks. Does anyone know a quick fix for this. I don't know if the exhaust goop (from permatex?) will work well in this application. Maybe with the band? Anyone been in this situation before and fixed it temporarily.

Thanks

Greg
