exhaust again

i know the exhaus question is gettin real old but now its my turn to ask a question about it.

k i have a 88 N/a i have a pacsetter header to 1 big main cat and thats it.

i think it sounds ok for now but i would like it a bit deeper, i dont have muh money to spend on a system so i was thinking.

just to get to unerversal mufflers such as 2 ractive dragger style mufflers.
now the problem is i cant have it to loud. caus ei live in a cultisak with a cop. hahahha

would this be way louder by just getting the mufflers? and how would it sound?

any sugestions would be good. and couls i fit a presilencer in there somwhere to make it a bit quieter?

so you currently have a header to a cat and thats it? no mufflers at all? Then any muffler you add to the end will be much quieter. I dont know if those ractive mufflers will hold up to the heat of a rotary. If anything, get an N1 style muffler and put in the silencer. Or do what i do...drive really slow in your neighbor hood and shift to 4th as fast as possible to keep the rpms down and the noise level low. A presilencer would be expensive.....its like 260 for the racing beat one.

Run it like this...

header....

main cat....

2.5" tubing to "Y" pipe....

Cut evrything off past 4" on either fork of the "Y" pipe....

Install two 2"-2.25" straight-through glass packs/mufflers on either fork (2" ideal for N/A dual setup)....

cap off with two Apexi style N1's with sileners.

This setup, with propper pre-mufflers, will give you a very deep tone and be quite smooth. It will also help with the noise a lot, especially with the silencers in place.

haha sorry yes i have stock mufflers and y pipe.

who makes the ni style?
and what do u mean by glass pack? like would thoes act as a presilencer? thanweld the muffler right on to the glass pack?

that sounds like it will work and wont be that loud! thanks!

also if i do end up goin with a ractve of magnaflow i can do the same setup but with just difrent pipes compared to the n1 style?

Apexi makes the real N1s but they're expensive. Ebay has knock offs that will work and that WILL hold up to the exhaust temps for a good couple of years (sometimes).

But yeah, just get a decent glasspack muffler...most muffler shops will have them really cheap and the baffles help a lot with the sound...though they're not beneficial to performance at all (see ** at end of post).

But yes, basically replace the forks of the "Y" pipe with the glass packs and they'll act as a decent pre-silencer. Also, be sure that the mufflers that you get do NOT exceed 2.25" inlet diameter. Going with a dual setup over 2.25" would be overkill. Also, look at the dimensions of the mufflers. You will want the ones with the biggest cans because they offer the best sound control. This setup will still make a decent amount of noise so you'll also want to make for certain that they come with a silencer.

ractive/magniflo/N1...means absolutely nothing. The name or style of muffler make about a big a difference in sound/performance as I do in our nations foreign relations. You need to pay the most attention to the dimensions...of course some mufflers are cheaply welded but most ebay knockoffs are fairly decent in construction.

When it comes to your exhaust:

Performance
Quiet
Cheap

Pick two.
