Red face exhaust

I think these questions might have been answered, or they should have. After searching on here, I can't quite find exactly what I'm looking for.

'91 N/A FC, stock 5 spd.

What are the best performing exhaust systems to look at? Judging by the site, Racing Beat seems to be popular. How would you guys rate a Borla system? I know I don't want N1, it sounds like an angry bumble bee on a 7 IMO. I'm willing to spend in the $500 ballpark for a good system if it is worth it. I'd like something mildly loud but nothing ricer, something low.

Also, the only headers I can find are Pace Setter and whatever this is http://www.mazdatrix.com/e-gray.htm. I don't want to spend more than $300 on a header but again, I wanna do it right and not cheap out.Would I be alright to get one of the 2 above or get a custom made header?

I'd also like to add I don't have emissions so thats nothing to be concerned with.

Finally, suspension. I'd like to drop the car about 1.5"-2". I really don't want coilovers. I'm making the switch from Hondas to rotaries so I know some of this is elementary to most of you. From my Honda experience, I've always had good luck with Tein so would anybody reccomend that for a 7? I will not be drifting. I'm looking something to hold corners nice and tight like its on tracks, or as close as I can.

Thanks for an help and the patience with a noob.

Racing Beat is the way to go. dont waste your money with pacesetter. RB is top dog when it comes to performance exhausts for the rx-7. they hold up, sound great, and imporve performance without sacrificing drivability.

N/A rotaries respond well to individual exhaust pipes from rotor to muffler ("true duals"). Mazdatrix used to sell a system, but now they only sell the RB one. There's a thread called "Objective Exhaust Reviews" where we're trying to compile a list of exhaust setups with reviews and audio, and the RB duals are on there. Here's the page:
http://howto.globalvicinity.com/gv_w...i=66&co=1&vi=1

And for other N/A performance info:
http://howto.globalvicinity.com/gv_w...i=69&co=1&vi=1

...and there's nothing wrong with angry bumble bees!

I will have to give my vote to Racing Beat. Have had their system for my N/A for about a month or so now and I looove it. It's actually quieter than it was before, with an extremly low, bassy sounding bottom end. ( I have the RB catback, with Bonez presilencer and high flow cat fwiw) Looks pretty mean too.

You would be surprised. I have an Apexi N1 catback that I bought for cheap and thought it would sound like a pissed off weed wacker when I threw on my Racing Beat header and Bonez hi-flow cat. It's actually deep sounding, it sounds sweet. I know I was surprised. I'm sure if I were to remove my hi-flow and throw on a straight pipe it will sound like a can full of bumble bees though.

I know I don't want it because I have a buddy who had a 90 N/A, looks just like yours in fact, he had that on there. I just really didn't like the sound of it. And yea, his cats were gutted so like you said, that might be part of the problem. Reguardless, I've neve been a fan of N1, on anything other than good quality from Apex'i.

So nobody has any feedback on Borla? Thanks stevej88 for the links. I'll check them out.

Yeah i'm not a big fan of the huge tip on the N1, I just needed to get rid of my stock pee shooters and it was cheap.
I'm also thinking about getting a borla catback so feedback would be great. Soundclips would also be a plus

Header: Racing Beat. Corksport has just released a new header but I havn't heard anything about it yet so I can't recomment it. Plus it's $299.

Suspensions: I'm running KYB AGX adjustable shocks with Tanabe GF210 springs. Tanabe claims it's a 1.5" drop. Racing Beat also makes springs but they are a 1" drop and the spring rates arn't as high as Tanabe GF210s. I'm very happy with my setup.

That header that Mazdatrix sells is the one made by Racing Beat. I'd get that one as far as headers go. Never heard a N1 in person but I know the Racing Beat sounds good. The HKS I have sounds pretty good but I think that they're no longer available, or at least Mazdatrix doesn't sell them anymore. I want different mufflers anyway because they're not a true staight thru design.

I had a friend with the HKS intake. It had a foam element in it. Can't say I saw any problems with it. I think most people seem to like the K&N style better. I have this one.

Came with mounting brackets. I would reccomend it.

Well I'd take the foam off and replace it with something else like Apex'i or K&N. I might just fabricate my own, who knows.
