Exhaust

haven't gotten a car yet but i'm looking to get a 91' TII and already thinking about what mods to get and a big one is what exhaust will get me the most power for my turbo II. I was on racing beat's web site and they claim their exhaust gives 49+ hp (i think that's what they said) if that's wrong feel free to correct it, but anyway and suggestions?

theres no possible way their exhaust adds nearly 50hp, maybe it said 4.9+, not 49, nice exhaust is only gonna add 5-15hp

This is off Racing Beat's site.

The Turbo II High Performance Exhaust system incorporates a 3.15-inch (80mm) down pipe from the turbo outlet that mates to a presilencer section. From the head of the Y-pipe two 2.375-inch (60mm) pipes extend to the ceramic wool-packed 409-stainless steel rear main mufflers. The bolt-on exhaust system increases horsepower approximately 32% - a 59 HP increase on a 1987 Turbo II RX-7!

Oh ye of little faith.

This is a turbo motor. The racing beat exhaust mentioned is a 3" setup. It hits fuel cut without a defenser, but after a defenser and a new fuel pump(and a cone intake for good measure), 49 bhp is child's play.

Yeah, he's not lying about RB's claims. like stated before, you would be required to run the FCD, but Racing beat claims their exhaust does just that (I was shopping in their catolog this afternoon )

Makes me start to reconsider my plans for the Corksport Turbo back exhaust set up... Anyone know any numbers/claims from Corksport off hand?

Oh yeah, welcome to the Rotary world, bro. Good luck with the search for your T-II I had to buy a GXL with the T-II motor, tranny, full pump, etc and then put it all together myself! But so far the cost is but $400, and you can't beat the learning expirience either!

i must and do know that i found a huge performance increase when i changed my cat out to the racing beat pre-silencer to complete the full RB system.

I found @ that RB statement is true and a really good product.

The best sound too.

that is an insane amount of power.....just from one exhaust system. I mean things like that just don't seem right....all because it is a turbo. But why just the 87.....what happens on a s5 turbo? same amount of power or not?

Assuming 32% the S5 turboIIs would get a bit more of a kick.

the reason there is a increase of 59 hp is because the increased size lets the turbo boost up to 10 psi instead of 8 psi like stock. Which is the reason for the FCD. The fuel cut comes in at 8.9 psi, so having the FCD tricks the ECU into thinking it is below this. So while you are at 10 psi, the car still reads that it is at 8.9 psi. Thus the need for S-AFC and a new boost gauge...
