is it ever TOO loud?

hey... I'm thikning about upgrading my exhaust system on my 89 GTU and I was just wondering how loud ppl think it will be;

RB header
Bonez midpipe/high-flow cat (supposed to be streetlegal)
A'pexi N1 single.

im a little worried it will have a whiney/annoying noise... will this be the case?

It all depends on your preference. For me, it would get real annoying, real fast. I got sick of my car when it was N/A and had a RB header/bonez high-flow cat, and dual straight through mufflers. The N1 would probably be a bit louder. This is why I went with a Greddy cat-back which had dual silencers before the mufflers.

its not so much the loudness im concerned about...i already have the N1 and i dont mind it. its pitch. i heard a guys car with those mods except a RB cat back and it sounded really high-pitched and lawnmower like to me. kinda want to avoid that.

Curious myself, I'm gonna be running the stock headers / mid pipe but then high flow 2.5" cat into a (I think) 2.5" corksport catback, which is supposed to be loud as hell by itself.

Hopefully it's not "HEY PIGGY PULL ME OVER" loud.

EDIT: I meant loud, not fast hahah...

I have the N1 w/ the bonez race pipe, its loud but not really annoying at all. Its a deep mellow sound, the turboII's sound even better.

2.5" DP straight thru to my Apexi dual n1's..its loud as hell and usually when I get out after driving it for hours i can't hear as well. Could be a mixture of my music and loud exaust though.

I was also told that with the setup I originally posted (RB header, Bonez high-flow, N1 for those who dont wanna scroll up) would shoot flames out when shifting at high rpms. is this true/possbile? while passing emmisions?

if you're gonna get RB headers, it will be noticeable to say the least. the bonez cat replacement will help a little, so will the N1's dual mufflers (on before the can, and the can itself). it shouldn't be too loud but you will definitely hear it.

now corksport; that's loud, cause the only muffler on it is the can intself - and i'm awaiting headers

nothing is louder than straight headers, that just rocks, scares the **** out of people too

its possible, yes. however the cat will eat up most of the flames...

No it will be fine. I have an N1 single and it was just fine with the stock turbo. If your N/A it should be fine. It became a bit too loud once I put in the big port and 62-1. I live with it anyway. Sounds good. I never ran a cat either. I do run a little glasspack before the fart can though. Without the glasspack I did get resonence real bad.

I've got a vid of my car on my other computer I'll upload it to a site and link to it. You can hear the single N1 with 3" all the way back no cat at boost.

how hard is it to custom make the racing beat 3'' turboback dp pre silencer mate up to apexi n1 dual without restricting the exhaust what is the best thing to do in my case get that downpipe that go's the whole way to the catback or get a racing beat 3'' downpipe and custom something to mate up to the n1 duals

When mine was running I had a lot of fun with the high revs in the car...

I would use 1-4.5k to drive with... when I noticed someone watching the car I'd rev slowly to 5k... let it sit a little bit, you know, making them think maybe I was in high revs... then just do a quick finish it off all the way through 8k and shift... with my blown TPS usually had a nice backfire to go with it. love seeing the reaction to that.

i have that setup, its not loud until you get on the throttle

i passed emissions in ohio with this setup while running lean/stoic; i have my rat nest removed, so i barely passed the hydrocarbon's(170 legal limit, 169.5 was mine)

you won't shoot flames with a cat.
