Ever so slight fuel smell, what is it?
well, I just read Reted's sticky. Heres the situation.
I installed a Walbro 255 HP 2 weeks ago. At first I smelled fuel thinking it was just left over vapors from a little spillage I had in the back, about 1/2 a cup dripped down the side of the fuel tank.. The smell is still lingering.
If I put on the vents I can smell a very faint raw fuel smell, like tonight. When I got home I left the motor running, and inhaled violently around the engine. I smelled nothing. No raw fuel smell. I smelled right over the fuel rail while the engine was running and I did not smell fuel. I directed my nose over the Pulsation Damper and smelled nothing, no raw fuel.
I just want to post this out on the internet. maybe someone can give me an idea of whats going on here, I dont want to smell fuel.
I believe my fuel lines are original and the PD is definatly original.
Is there something I can do to make sure its not the PD? like a visual inspection, without taking the intake manifold off?
Safety first - I carry an extinguisher.

have you checked your fuel line??? in my 91 nissan i smelt fuel, checked injectors and around the intake and smelt nothing. I had a hole in my fuel line the size of a pin hole.. I ignored it for weeks and then got tired of it and looked.. I saw a soft mist and was smoking a cigarette and touched it to smell and as soon as i recognized the problem i jumped back. replaced the hose and i was fine.

With a cold engine, jumper your fuel pump jumper, turn the key on and wait for b/t 1/2 to one hour.I did this with my car and it started to puddle after a half hour. Faulty mechanial work by yours truly. A primary fuel injector 0ring was leaking a bit. I've also had that faint fuel smell due to the hose being off the charcoal canister. Seen someone else on this forum that had that same problem. Put hose back on canister.

You can always put a pressure gauge in line on the fuel system with the car off. If the pressure starts to fall below specs then it is leaking somewhere. I don't remember off hand the psi specs for the fuel system when it is not running, but it is in the Haynes manual.
