Erratic Idle

To begin, my car starts up just fine and idles high for the first 5 minutes or so like normal to get the engine temp up to norm. But as the engine temp settles and the idle goes down to the normal 750-ish, my idle will drop down and up erratically basically when ever my car is in neutral. It rises and falls between around 400-800 or so and its a very noticable vibration througout the car ( especially with the shifter). Why is it idling funny? And how can I fix this problem? Would just increasing the idle speed take car of it or should I look into why it is idling weird and fix that? Thanks much.

You need to adjust your mechanical idle first, then go from there...

You need to get the FSM (search, download) or the Haynes manual to help you...

Jumper the initial set coupler on a warm engine, and adjust the idle adjust screw until you have a steady 750 rpm idle. The steps may be slightly different on your '90 (I'm telling you how to do it the '88 way), which is why you need the manual...

Note that you could also have a vac leak...

1st post huh? Welcome
