erase check engine codes...

I forgot how to erase the codes on my FC(check engine light). I thought it was on the repair manual--i was wrong--. I remember it had to do with the battery and brake pedal. Does anyone know how to do it?
I keep getting the check engine light but i want to see after I erase the code if it comes back or what.

just disconnect the battery for 15 secs or so. some people say to push the brake pedal a few times with it disconnected but mine always clear without doing it.
